This small community garden, tended by a group of dedicated volunteers, is located along the back edge of Victory Farm. Most of the produce grown is donated to food pantries on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Volunteers are encouraged to take home produce for their own use. Nevertheless, the garden has produced and donated nearly a 1,000 pounds of vegetables each year. Primary crops are peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, onions, beans, beets, garlic, sweet potatoes, kale, Swiss chard, and lettuce.
We welcome new volunteers! Most of the gardening gets done on weekly work days, so the garden has developed into a fun and pleasant community—plus it is good exercise! We encourage volunteers to suggest crops to grow. Horticulturist, garden book author, and blogger (www.easternshoregardener.com) Barbara Ellis heads up the staff of “fellow farmers” who tend the garden.
