Skylar Landis

Skylar has been training dogs since she was nine years old. In 2003 she began working with the Seeing Eye in Morristown, NJ as a puppy raiser through a local 4-H club. Over an eight years span, she raised seven dogs including a Golden Ret., two Labs, three German Shepherds, and a Golden/Lab cross. She also took time to mentor and help new members with training and socialization. One of these dogs was rejected, due to a fear of thunderstorms, and he became her first agility dog in 2006. Since then she has worked with many breeds, from Chihuahuas to Mastiffs, relating to all sorts of problems such as excessive barking, loose leash walking, calming exercises, and basic manners.

During the summer of 2015, Skylar interned at Mid-Atlantic Border Collie Rescue in Chestertown, MD and this is where she adopted her first dog, a bearded border collie, MABCR “Auggie” (CATCH, RL2, RATN, ETD, TKP, CGCA)*. Auggie introduced Skylar to many training opportunities such as trick training and nosework. In March, 2017, Skylar adopted her second dog, a border collie named MABCR They Call Me Wolverine aka “Logan,” (CL4, RL1, RATI, ITD, TKP, CGCA).** They currently are competing in agility, and rally while training in tracking and herding. Jessie (VH Jessie CL2 CGCA) joined the family in May 2019. She’s actively competing in CPE agility and USBCHA Herding (Pro-Novice). In August 2020, Tripp (Ettrick Tripp) made his way from Missouri to Maryland to complete the gang. Tripp has started foundations for herding and agility.

Skylar has trained her own dogs in basic obedience, manners, agility, rally, rally free, tricks, tracking, herding, and nose work (barn hunt and scent detection). Skylar believes in making training a fun, creative, learning environment for the dog and the owner to enjoy through positive, balanced training methods.

Skylar graduated from Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pa in May 2016 with a degree in Business Administration and officially opened Belle Rose Kennels May 30th, 2016 where she offers boarding, day care, light grooming, and training for dogs within the Mid-Atlantic area. She also continues to be heavily involved with Mid-Atlantic Border Collie Rescue and Kent County Humane Society as a volunteer, trainer, and handler. Skylar also actively trials in CPE agility, AKC agility, and WCRL rally with her current dogs. In 2018 Skylar also began volunteering for our local therapy dog organization, Pets on Wheels of Delmarva, LLC. She has goals of running in the 2020 CPE Agility Nationals with both her pups in 2020.
